Welcome

Community matters to those of us who are managing Rowheath Pavilion on behalf of the neigbhourhood, community groups and other individuals who live in this area. Community is a core value. We are concerned to both serve the community and to help create community.

As a facility, Rowheath Pavilion is managed by a trust established by the Paviliion Christian Community – a local church. Rowheath Christian Community holds many of its activities at Rowheath, provides volunteers to help the centre operate and appoints the trustees who oversee the work of the trust. We welcome and are actively looking for others in the community to help as volunteers in the operation of the centre.

Bournville Village was the first purpose-built community in Britain. When George Cadbury started the building work he asked himself how people wanted to live. The result was good, clean housing, green spaces and a sense of belonging. A place where people wanted to be. The housing and the green spaces have changed little but today it is increasingly difficult, in our busy lives, to recognise our neighbours or to feel that sense of belonging. We continue to aim to bring life, in all its fulness, back to the building and so to restore it to the community it was originally designed to serve.

In recent times we have conducted a survey to ask people in Bournville what the area needs most of all. The top three answers were, something for young people to do, a playground for children and a community café. We have attempted to meet all three of these needs through the appointment of a youth worker, the provision of a playground and a year ago the opening of the Pavilion Community Café. Our intention is to continue to identify needs and try to meet them as we think about the creation of community in the 21st century.

If you have any questions about who we are or what we do please get in touch with me, either by telephone on 07974 910 179 or just drop into the café to see me or have a chat with one of the team. Alternatively, you can email us at info@rowheathpavilion.co.uk.
